Deborah Bright

Deborah Bright creates works that merge naturalistic forms with abstraction, drawing from art historical, camp, pop, and psychedelic visual languages.
After decades as a photographer, educator, and writer, Bright returned to painting and drawing to express experiences and feelings with few physical analogs. Her compositions combine lush colors with motifs inspired by the work of selected artistic forebears. Using an intuitive approach, Bright recombines elements from these sources with her own sensibility and wit, resulting in works that convey the queer pleasures of gender ambiguity.
